Deklin's Narrative. The Legend of Lake Moananui.
The Legend of Lake Moananui
by Deklin "I have the best hair in the world" Taumata.
During the late 1970’s in the town of Tokoroa. There were some smart students. Firstly, Greg the Groovy One. He was a champ at dancing. He was in the Guiness Book of Records for the longest dance. He had groovy tanned skin, with a groovy afro and big Juju lips. He was from the Cook Islands.
Secondly, Zack the Geeky One. He had short blonde hair and he wore BIG glasses. He was a spelling bee champ. He won so many times. He almost became the smartest kid in the world. But, Lilly Wright was the smartest kid in the world.
Thirdly, there was Scarlet, the Beautiful One. She had a poodle named Ms Noa Tereu. This was no ordinary poodle. It liked chocolate milkshakes and looked like a doggy version of Whitney Houston. Scarlet competed in beauty pageants from all around the world. She was also a great singer. She sang at the Opera House. She was from Australia.
Fourthly, there was Nina the Adventurous One. She had a dog called Busty. He was LAZY!!! Busty ate so much, he weighed 600 kilograms. Nina was one of the best runners. She won 3 races. She won a race that lasted for 30 hours. It was all over the North Island.
Now, you know all of these student’s hobbies. Greg’s groovy, Zack’s geeky, Scarlet is all about beauty and Nina’s all about adventures. They called themselves the Groovy 4’s. At first they were called the Groovy 3’s. Actually, Greg did not want to join the group. But, once he heard Nina was there. He joined the Groovy 4’s. Greg had a BIG CRUSH on Nina.
One day the Groovy 4’s rode on their bikes to the fish and chips shop to buy some lunch. Several minutes later, after they had eaten their lunch.
Scarlet said, “There’s got to be somewhere to swim around here?”
Ms Noa Tereu barked, “Woof, woof” which meant “I’m hot too” in poodle language.
The Groovy 4’s thought we could have a sprinkler.
“NO!” shouted Nina. “Remember the last time? I got water in my eye.”
Nina exclaimed “Why don’t we gather a group of people to help make a lake?”
“Great idea” Greg said.
So they put posters up all over town. Everyone in Tokoroa agreed. The townspeople gathered around Arawa Crescent. They all worked so hard. It took them 6 weeks to complete the lake.
The first people to jump in the lake were Greg, Scarlet, Zack and Nina. Ms Noa Tereu and Busty had a swim too.
Ms Noa Tereu barked, “Woof, Woof” which means Big Ocean in poodle language.
Greg said, “Moananui, means big ocean in Maori”
Everyone cheered and yelled “Yaye, we’re finished”
A word from Ms Tereu. So proud of your creativity Deklin my darling. You make being a teacher one of the best jobs in the world. Keep creating stories that make people smile. Love you to the moon and back and them some!

Room 7 Love to Research!
Learning something new is often frustrating and can be rather irritating. Room 7 is Learning Heaven so we're all quite used to this feeling. We've learnt to push through this feeling and to persist!
One new skill we have mastered this term is in the area of research. At the beginning of the term, Ms Tereu asked the class for the names of some countries. We were all shocked to discover that we weren't very good at identifying countries. SO....our journey as researchers began.
We have had numerous challenges where we've learnt about countries, capital cities, oceans, mountains...you name it we've looked it up!
Room 7 have one very proud and happy teacher. It's so awesome for Ms Tereu to write challenging questions up on the board because she knows her babies can use books, globes and maps to find the answers. How Meke? TUMEKE!
Room 7 Thinkers know how to learn!

Room 7 triumphs over Ms Tereu
Ms Tereu gave the class a challenge. They were to learn as many countries as they could. Room 7's teacher came up with 101 countries. Room 7 won with a slim margin defeating their sensei by one measly country!!! Well done my darlings. You deserved your victory but you better work hard for this next challenge!!!
The challenge this week is to learn countries and their capital cities. This time I will triumph. Remember if you don't defeat me. You will watch another class enjoy your treat. How's that for motivation??? Cruel I know my darlings but that's how Ms Tereu rolls. Mwahahahahahahah!!! (Evil laugh)

Ms Tereu at a Teacher's Conference...Waipuna Hotel in Auckland.
Kia ora my Room 7 babies. Let me start this post by saying I miss you all so much. I hope you were all nice to Mr Abraham. I know you will love having Miss Andrews for the rest of the week.
Anyway, Ms Tereu and Mr Kendrick have been at a conference to learn how to better help children with their reading. Oh my gosh my darlings, you are so lucky to have me as your teacher because at least I make you laugh. There was one person speaking today that made me feel sleepy (shhhh....don't tell Mr Kendrick haha).
I have one more day of learning and free food (haha). Then I will be flying out to the Cook Islands. I'll take some pictures and try to post something on the blog.
I've got some pictures of my cool as room. I feel like a princess. You know you should believe me when I say I'm royalty (and an FBI agent hehe).
Take care and see you next week...love you long time....xxx
