What's in a Name??? The Story Behind Your Name....

Our first unit study for the year is called ALL ABOUT ME!

Today we discussed the story behind our names.

Well, Ms Tereu thinks she has a pretty cool story behind her name. She is named after her grandmother. When her Mama was alive, they were the only two people who carried this name - Tutunoa. Now that Mama has gone. Ms Tereu is the only Tutunoa. That's a pretty cool statistic!

In Aitutaki history, their ancestral waka/canoe, the Ngapuariki left Avaiki to find new lands. The captain of the waka/canoe was named Ru. He took with him princesses (his wives - yip in ancient Polynesian culture you were allowed more than one wife...ewww hehe). Tutunoa was one of the princesses onboard the canoe. When they landed on Aitutaki, they populated the islands with their children.

Ms Tereu and her Mama used to joke that out of all the princesses on the Ngapuariki, that Tutunoa was the most intelligent, had the best personality and of course was the most beautiful out of all of Ru's wives hehe. (Well that's their story and they're sticking to it!)

Ms Tereu and Room 7 invite you to tell us the story behind your name. Are you named after a family member? A favourite rock star? Let us know, we'd love to read your story.

Thank you....love Strathmore 7th Learning Heaven xxx

Beautiful Aitutaki...xxx
