What is a family?

Room 7 have been asking the question.  What is a family?
For most people a family consists of Mum, Dad, brothers and sisters.  Ms Tereu was raised by her grandparents.  Some other children live with just their Mum, others live in two homes.

We are reading a story about Christian the Lion.  He was bought by two friends - John and Ace from Harrods Department Store in London.  This tale is about John and Ace's love for Christian and how they gave an orphaned cub a home and a family that loved him.

Through Christian the Lion, Room 7 is learning that a family is a group where we find our place of belonging.

We are still reading our way through the book....but ask your Room 7 darling to tell you more details about this lovely narrative.

  1. Family is being with people that care for you. There are lots of different types of families. I had 2 Dads growing up which was cool coz you get 2 lots of presents at xmas & on birthdays. Imagine adopting a lion!! Maybe having a smaller cat would be a bit safer? Go Room 7 you guys are doing awesome! Keep up the good work & be kind to Ms Tereu!!

  2. Hi Room 7 darlings... This is so awesome! I love the story of Christain the Lion. And I love your blog.

I too, have 3 whangai (adopted) sons that I have raised since they were little babies and are now 17, 15 and 9. They are very lucky boys because they each have 2 Mums. Just like Christain has 2 Dads.

Family is knowing that no matter how far away you are or how long you have been away your family they will always love you. Room 7 darlings ROCK.

  3. Family is about being in a safe and loving home. I was brought up like Miss Tereu, with my grandparents. Now I have my own husband and children, and sometimes we have other children come and live with us for long or short periods of time. But whatever the time, we make sure to enjoy ourselves, keep each other safe and love one another.

  10. Hey room 7,
So your learning about family?! Everyones families are so different aye!? Before I was born my parents were married to other people and had kids. Then they got divorced from those people, meet each other...had me & my sister and then got married! Even though my other brothers and sisters aren't from both my parents they are fully my siblings. I have 3 daughters,a son in heaven,a grandson,a grand daughter on the way, a son-nlaw, 2 cats called milo & otis and a black fish called roxy...this is my family!
Friends can become your family too because you often spend more time with them.
Enjoy your work and don't annoy your teacher :)
