Introducing Ranginui Teddy-U

Kia ora koutou ko Ranginui Teddy-U toku ingoa.
Room 7 has a new student.  He's cute and cuddly.
His name is Ranginui Teddy-U.  (He's named after Ms Tereu's favourite university lecturer - Ranginui Walker) He's going to help us LEARN HOW TO LEARN.  Ranginui is going to teach us 16 Habits of Mind that we can use when we need to learn something new or when we face a problem that needs to be solved.

The first Habit of Mind we are learning is:
Persistence

Successful learners don’t give up easily. If it
doesn’t work one way they try another.

Persistence is hard work but we're up for the challenge here in Room 7.

Ranginui's Story...

Kia ora Whanau

Ranginui here...well this story isn't really mine, but it's what I saw Ms Tereu have to do when she learnt how to drive.  She will admit it hasn't been easy for her.  But she's able to drive herself around town and she loves it.

Ms Tereu showed persistence by practicing her driving even though she was really scared.  She also had wonderful supporters who would encourage her to stick at it.  They would give her advice and help her to learn the road rules.  Ms Tereu still has a lot to learn with driving (like parking straight hahahahaha).  But, she'll stick at it because that's what persistence is all about.

So, to all you wonderful followers of our blog, share your stories with us about how you show persistence when faced with new learning.

PS:  If you want to know more about the Habits of Mind follow this link.

What is a family?

Room 7 have been asking the question.  What is a family?
For most people a family consists of Mum, Dad, brothers and sisters.  Ms Tereu was raised by her grandparents.  Some other children live with just their Mum, others live in two homes.

We are reading a story about Christian the Lion.  He was bought by two friends - John and Ace from Harrods Department Store in London.  This tale is about John and Ace's love for Christian and how they gave an orphaned cub a home and a family that loved him.

Through Christian the Lion, Room 7 is learning that a family is a group where we find our place of belonging.

We are still reading our way through the book....but ask your Room 7 darling to tell you more details about this lovely narrative.

We are Masterpieces!

We are Masterpieces!

Picasso is our inspiration as we use our beautiful faces to create works of art!

Visual Mihimihi...All About Me.

In the Maori culture, a mihimihi is used to introduce yourself. Room 7 will be introducing themselves by using images to tell a story about their families, their culture and things that are special to them.

We are using the work of the great artist Picasso for inspiration.  Who needs paper?  Room 7 doesn't we use our own faces to create masterpieces.  (Why not, we're gorgeous!)

Ezekiel the artist at work on a masterpiece named Teariki
After creating her masterpiece on Kalais, it's now Paige's turn to be a work of art!
Madison goes solo creating her own masterpiece!  A future make-up artist perhaps???
Rangikauwhata putting the finishing touches on Tyron's work of art.
Autumn and Joyce-Lenae show that a little goes a long way!
Things go exactly as Tyron and Rangikauwhata planned.
Bethany works her magic on Sharnee.
Kaleb creates a masterpiece with Phoenix.
