Ms Tereu's first attempt at a gateaux (French for flash looking cake lol)

I baked a choc fudge cake in a mini cake tin.  I cut two mini-cakes into four.  Use the flat pieces as the base and top.  I had fresh strawberries and whipped cream.  I added icing sugar and a bit of vanilla essence to the cream, it tastes yummy!!!

Spread cream and place strawberries on one cake layer. (Don't spread the cream right to the end or else it'll go gloop and spill out the sides when you put the next layer on)

Do the same with the one of the fat layers of the cake.  (It's okay to cut a bit off the top to make it flatter)

That sooooo does not look like the YouTube tutorial I was watching hahaha.  Spread cream around the whole cake.  I only used three cake layers or else it would have been too high.
NOTE:  I think my whipped cream wasn't thick enough, it didn't hold onto the sides.  Next time, I'll beat it thicker.  (Plus, I don't know what I'm doing hahaha)

Not the prettiest but not bad for a first attempt.  I don't know how to use a piping bag to make the cream rosettes for the strawberries, so I cheated and used the whipped cream from the can.
SO, there you have it Deklin - my little chef in the making.  I hope you enjoyed this post.  For my other Strathmore darlings.  Give it a go.  Even if Mum or someone else bakes the cake for you.  Let your creativity run free and decorate your own cake.

Love you guys....Ms Tereu xxx

Creativity Unleashed: White Ribbon Window Display.

We've been discussing violence and how it's not ok! Violence isn't just physical, words can cause wounds too. We choose to talk each other up in Room 7. No put downs allowed!

The class have been super creative getting the white ribbon message out!

People can change. Ms Tereu shared about her Papa. He would be violent towards her Mama when he was drunk. (This was way before Ms Tereu was born) So...he stopped drinking to change his violent behaviour. Ms Tereu always talks about how proud she is that her Papa was man enough to change.

He's the best man she's ever known! (Even better than SBW lol)

Here's some pics taken by the talented Ezekiel Paiti.

Lucas hard at work getting our koru border up.
Ezekiel showing his creative photography skills.
Mean pic Ezekiel, you've captured our tipani (frangipani) white ribbon beautifully.
Peace doves, koru and white ribbon...One love people!

The finished product.  Room 7 produced this masterpiece on both sides of our classroom.  SO...no one would miss our important message.  Family Violence is Not OK!

Room 7 Poets!

Once again Mrs Smith is doing a wonderful job teaching in Strathmore 7th Learning Heaven.

The Room 7 Thinkers have used their solar system knowledge to write acrostic poems about space.

Deklin has written an acrostic poem using phrases. He shares great facts about the solar system in his poem. You're a star writer my darling!

Sativah has written an acrostic poem using single words. She shares her facts about space as well. You are improving so much as a writer. Sativah's smile is bright like the sun. (We've been learning about similes too)

So proud of my Room 7 Authors!
Sativah with her wonderful writing.
Deklin my star writer!

Deklin's Narrative. The Legend of Lake Moananui.

The Legend of Lake Moananui
by Deklin "I have the best hair in the world" Taumata.

During the late 1970’s in the town of Tokoroa.  There were some smart students.  Firstly,  Greg the Groovy One.  He was a champ at dancing.  He was in the Guiness Book of Records for the longest dance.  He had groovy tanned skin, with a groovy afro and big Juju lips.  He was from the Cook Islands.

Secondly, Zack the Geeky One.  He had short blonde hair and he wore BIG glasses.  He was a spelling bee champ.  He won so many times.  He almost became the smartest kid in the world.  But, Lilly Wright was the smartest kid in the world.

Thirdly, there was Scarlet, the Beautiful One.  She had a poodle named Ms Noa Tereu.  This was no ordinary poodle.  It liked chocolate milkshakes and looked like a doggy version of Whitney Houston.  Scarlet competed in beauty pageants from all around the world.  She was also a great singer.  She sang at the Opera House.  She was from Australia.

Fourthly, there was Nina the Adventurous One.  She had a dog called Busty.  He was LAZY!!!  Busty ate so much, he weighed 600 kilograms.  Nina was one of the best runners.  She won 3 races.  She won a race that lasted for 30 hours.  It was all over the North Island.

Now, you know all of these student’s hobbies.  Greg’s groovy, Zack’s geeky, Scarlet is all about beauty and Nina’s all about adventures.  They called themselves the Groovy 4’s.  At first they were called the Groovy 3’s.  Actually, Greg did not want to join the group.  But, once he heard Nina was there.  He joined the Groovy 4’s.  Greg had a BIG CRUSH on Nina.

One day the Groovy 4’s rode on their bikes to the fish and chips shop to buy some lunch.  Several minutes later, after they had eaten their lunch.

Scarlet said, “There’s got to be somewhere to swim around here?”

Ms Noa Tereu barked, “Woof, woof”  which meant “I’m hot too” in poodle language.

The Groovy 4’s thought we could have a sprinkler.

“NO!” shouted Nina.  “Remember the last time?  I got water in my eye.”

Nina exclaimed “Why don’t we gather a group of people to help make a lake?”

“Great idea” Greg said.

So they put posters up all over town.  Everyone in Tokoroa agreed.  The townspeople gathered around Arawa Crescent.  They all worked so hard.  It took them 6 weeks to complete the lake.

The first people to jump in the lake were Greg, Scarlet, Zack and Nina.  Ms Noa Tereu and Busty had a swim too.

Ms Noa Tereu barked, “Woof, Woof” which means Big Ocean in poodle language.

Greg said, “Moananui, means big ocean in Maori”

Everyone cheered and yelled “Yaye, we’re finished”

A word from Ms Tereu.  So proud of your creativity Deklin my darling.  You make being a teacher one of the best jobs in the world.  Keep creating stories that make people smile.  Love you to the moon and back and them some!
